Poster designs and branding

After our visit with Simon Morris he gave me these posters to deliver to the design dept.
These are the styles of posters which he would like to see as they are dramatic and artsistic, he felt that the poster designed by Neil Hart was to much to do with graphic design.

Proposed Work

To fulfill our brief we would like to propose the following:

A brochure which will contain information on all of the courses evolved in the A level show, including case studies on a few students (such as future career aspirations)

this should also contain contact information for the college and a map. Enclosed in this will be a DVD with the film based studies included, this will act as a marketing pack for parents only. (This work is proposed by Neil Hart)

A poster, which will hopefully attract visitors and advertise the show. And is intended for display around campus. (This work is proposed by Chris Gomez)

Ticket designs, which will reflect the same style of the brochure and the poster to create a brand style. (This work is proposed by Chloe Marsden)

Asher Scott and myself propose to create film based student interviews and showcases of work, this will include filming willing students and their works.

We also propose to create a website which will probably take a similar look to the poster and will simply advertise the show, we propose this to be a direct link from the college website. And wont consist of any imagery of students.

The only proposed publications which will need the usage of students are the film based work and possibly the brochure.

We would like to know college policys on filming and may need to use release forms.

This is the list of work which we proposed to Simon Morris when Asher and myself met with him for the first time, during this meeting he also met Dan Cole, Neil Hart and Tim Bradley. I have also emailed this list to Simon so that he could discus this with the marketing department.

The Website

We have just 5 weeks left at college so with all of our inderivudal projects to do I dont think we have time for a fully blown website and with the response from marketing I dont think we are going to get very far due to permissions and privacy protections.
Therefore going back to Tuesdays lesson we decided as a group to have a single page website which had a direct link from the York College website.
We agreed that the best way of doing this would be to have a poster design at the top of the page and text content below.
This is the only option which is likely to be accepted by the college as everything we do is currently having to go through marketing.

I have also created a website for the members of this assignment to share works collaboratively: Visit The A Level Show Case Website Here

via the website shown above I have suggested the usage of Moonfruit.com which lets you create a one page website quickly and easily.

Neil Hart - anothe member of the group agrees with me on this.
I also proposed this to the group on tuesday when i made a list of what everyone in the gropu was doing for the brief. They agreed on this aswell
I have volenteered to create this site however if someone does not have a task to do then they may take this role.

Progress: - 25 April

On Friday Asher Scott and myself visited the class of Simon Morris' including art students where we carried out a powerpoint presentation showing our current progress and showed to him the poster designs, He would like anyone involved in poster, ticket, branding, brochure designs ect.. to go and visit him so that he can show you what he would like. Asher has taken down a few notes which Im sure he will share. Think you all have Simons college email address if not its: smorris@yorkcollege.ac.uk Please can everyone try to attend meetings in future!
I will be working along side Asher Scott to furfill my brief for the A Level Art Show, I will be creating showcases of students work which can be displayed on a promotional DVD and possibly the website.
We have currenly:
* Used our time for planning including Gantt Charts
* Found contacts for the show
* Met with the event planner Simon Morris
* Met with other tutors including Textiles and Photography
* Met with Students
* Planned work with Art students
* Met with Marketing on multiple occasions
* Showcased a presentation with branding proposals for other members of the group.
* Delivered information back to the group on regards to the branding proposals.
* Arranged filming time.

It would be favoured by Asher Scott and myself if other people would also be willing to put in the extra hours to attend meetings with contacts and students.

Strategy Post - Friday 23rd April

During this brief we will have to work both collaboratively and individually, therefore to story board ideas and share our progress we decided as a group that it would be a great idea to use a new media source to communicate our collaborative work. For this we chose FaceBook, we have chosen this source due to it been the social platform which the majority or people use on a daily basis.
Therefore we created a FaceBook group which was limited, meaning that anyone who was not involved with the collaborative work could not view our research. On this social platform several members of the group have posted poster designs to inspire the rest of the group so that we can collaboratively create a brand for the show. Having a brand will enable an identity for the show, it sets a style like a logo does for a big company i.e the Windows logo for Microsoft, to do this our poster designs, tickets, logos and other media formats will have a certain style and identity.

Later today we will be meeting with Simon - the person in charge of the A level art show
this is so that we can get approval from him for our visual aspects on design and style. Students participating in the show will also be present for the meeting which give Asher Scott and myself the opportunity to meet some of the students and view their work in order for us to select students work for filming, it also means that we will be able to meet students whom are willing to appear on camera rather than being camera shy.
Before we progress to the meeting we will be collaboratively creating a PowerPoint presentation, the presentation will need to project the values that we would like to portray from our designs. To decide what we would like to portray as a team we explored various themes which would hopefully convey the hard work and effort that the art students have put into their work. This is where the poster designs became important, online we have four separate poster designs which we discussed as a group to aid our visual identity.
Poster One:
<>
present at the team meeting:
TB - Tim Bradley
HP - Heather-louise Plimmer
AS - Asher Scott
NH - Neil Hart
CM - Chloe Marsden

Verdict on this poster design:-
TB - I like this poster design, it gets to the point due to the bold type settings, the poster is bold and clutter free.
AA - Concerned the poster looks to basic, almost like a brush setting in photo shop.
HP - I agree the type looks to pixelated
AS - In its current state it looks to basic
NH - If we make the logo bigger and the type larger it would create more of a striking look.
CM - This poster would create a strong style and brand.
HP - I agree that it would set a strong brand, but I think we need to re consider the theme or stylings of the poster, currently it looks to grungy which some artists may be happy with yet others may not. We need to find a happy medium.

Poster Two: -
<>
AA - This poster looks a little too arty
HP - The writing on the poster needs to be a bolder or a different colour as it is hard to read.
AA - If you have to put the college logo on this it
TB - It wouldn't work with the college logo it would blend in to easily
CM - The logo wouldn't aesthetically suit the poster

Poster Three: -
<>
HP - This poster looks really original because of the way the text set changes in size becoming the country side. I really like the colours which are included in this image its really bold and eye catching.
NH - When I was designing this poster I was trying to get away from the 'norm' I wanted to create something which wasnt particually to do with art, I looked at what inspired me and thought of the country, this was the inspiration for my poster design.
AS - I favour this poster design as its really eye catching
CM - Another point to make is that the logo will look really good as it will be white on a blue background.
